On Thursday, Governor Martin O’Malley traveled to Iraq, courtesy of the Pentagon, for a two day visit with troops from Maryland.
On Saturday, former Governor Bob Ehrlich used his radio show to criticize O’Malley for the trip, saying O’Malley shouldn’t have left Annapolis during the legislative session.
And, on Monday, Lt. Governor Anthony Brown criticized Ehrlich for sticking his nose in the matter, saying Ehrlich doesn’t understand the relationship between a governor and the National Guard. (Click here to read/watch Monday’s evening newscast coverage.)
Later this month, Ehrlich is expected to announce his decision about running for election.
Let’s hope the exchange over the Iraq trip does not foretell the tone of an O’Malley – Ehrlich rematch.
The last thing voters need is one more political stage on which its players resort to partisan, petty attacks as their main act.
